GRANTS

Sea Forward Ocean Health (SFOH) Fund provides small $5,000 grants to propel innovative programs and projects that support the ocean’s biodiversity and ecosystem through science, education, and action. An example of a recent grant that we have funded supports reef health and fish biomass studies in Misool Marine Reserve in Raja Ampat, Indonesia. SFOH favors well-defined, discrete projects so the impact of our grants can be measured and meaningfully assessed. We also appreciate the opportunity to match project grants from other funders.

 

A grants committee of ocean science and education professionals selects recipients of up to two projects or programs per year. Click the links below to learn more about our grant recipients.

The Bren School of Environmental Science & Management at UC Santa Barbara develops interdisciplinary solutions to environmental problems, trains environmental leaders, and works toward a sustainable future. Sea Forward provides internships to Bren School graduate students to support work in ocean focused initiatives.

Community Environmental Council

Community Environmental Council builds on-the-ground momentum to reverse the threat of the climate crisis. They transform the systems that fuel it and safeguard the community from its impacts. They lead, partner, and act to create a more resilient Central California Coast.​

Greenwave is a global network of regenerative ocean farmers with a goal of supporting 10,000 farmers, catalyzing the scaled planting of regenerative crops to yield meaningful economic and climate impacts.

Island Visions uses an in-depth exploration of the Channel Islands off the California coast to inspire explorers and students of all ages to seek the wonder in their own backyards. They hope that the finned, flippered, and footed experts within its pages help future generations to better understand and protect this little blue marble that we all call home.

Multicultural Education for Resources Issues Threatening Oceans (MERITO) Foundation is dedicated to protecting the ocean by facilitating education, conservation, and scientific research opportunities for multicultural youth and their communities.

Quasars to Sea Stars is a work-study-volunteer program for high school teens through Santa Barbara Museum of Natural History. Participants take Museum classes and learn from professional scientists They also volunteer in the Museum, Sea Center, and community.

Save the Manatee Club contributes toward educational and conservation efforts for the giant and gentle West Indian manatees.

Sustainable Ocean Alliance is a nonprofit organization based in San Francisco, California that develops leaders, cultivates ideas, and accelerates solutions in the field of ocean health and sustainability.

Misool Foundation We are happy to announce our first matching grant to support reef health and fish biomass studies in Misool Marine Reserve in Raja Ampat, Indonesia. Misool Resort and Misool Foundation, are protecting the world's richest coral reefs and this grant will help to support that important work.
